the ringing in my ears

This noise, this noise
Like a broken radio
Or static from a TV.

This noise, this noise
I cannot hear myself
Think clearly.

This noise, this noise
Make it go away
Or I cannot sleep.

This noise, this noise
It is troubling me
Oh, how I weep!

This noise, this noise
They’re the verbal deadwood
Of the menacing trees.

This noise, this noise
They’re buzzing in my head
Like angry bees.

This noise, this noise
They’re the the words of the dead
Coming to haunt me.

This noise, this noise
They’re the opinions of the unimportant
Coming to devour me.

This noise, this noise
They’re the breath of an intruder
Blowing onto my skin.

This noise, this noise
I can feel the headache
Creeping – rushing in.

This noise, this noise
They’re the cherry on top
To the sundae of calamity.

This noise, this noise
They’re the malicious stares of those
With pseudo-superiority.

This noise, this noise
They’re the ones that taunt me
Of my deepest fears.

This noise, this noise
They are constantly
Ringing in my ears.

This noise, this noise
They are ever-present –
Within me they’ll always be.

This noise, this noise
They’re the ones that will
Finally be the death of me.
