Afraid

I am so very afraid,
To go out on my own at night,
Hell, it doesn’t matter what time of day!
I carry so much fright.

Even during summertime,
I dress from head to toe,
Alas this fact is disregarded by crime!
Even though there is no skin show.

For predators prowl no matter what,
It doesn’t matter what we wear,
It is only us girls who are taught,
To be mindful and take more care.

We are mothers and sisters and daughters too!
But all they see is a nice juicy hole,
We cannot do as boys would do,
For doing so has a repugnant toll.

My soul yearns to be free with no restrictions,
Oh why can we not educate our men?!
Their deprivations lead to addictions?
Let them learn to behave as human!

no one is asking for it unless they are verbally asking for it.

  1. Dunno what to say, how to react… it’s horrific the things are currently going on here! I can shed a tear, I can rave & rant, I can get my BP up, I can curse the rulers/cops/men/perpetrators, but that’s all I can do and that’s exactly what gets me angry – my helplessness. You’ve nailed it – the fault lies in how we bring up our boys, the values we instil in them.

Take care, and if I can offer you a hug?

    1. Thank you, I feel the same way. This helplessness is felt by people everywhere. And it’s not just limited to women, even men have experienced it though it’s not as common or well known. My heart goes out to all of the victims and I truly hope that the mindset/mentality of these culprits takes a turn and that such evil thoughts would never even cross anyone’s mind, and I hope that the more we talk about it without taboo, and educate our people, such events would never again occur.
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my post! Warm hugs for everyone!

  2. You’ve expressed the thoughts that each and every girl in our country is having at the moment. It’s just disgraceful, the way women are ‘educated’ about rape (sometimes not even that!) And men aren’t taught shit about consent.
I loved the line where you mentioned that we’re mothers, sisters and daughters yet all men see is a juicy hole!
It’s just awful to even think about!😞

    1. Yes, it is awful. And I’ve written only about women but even men experience such things, albeit maybe to a lesser degree. Each person must be respectful towards every other person and their feelings and should always take consent first! Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my post!
